Welcome to Scoil Bhreac Chluain!
Scoil Bhreac Chl€uain re-opens after Summer holidays on Tuesday 31st August at 9.20am. A big welcome to everybody after the holidays and a special welcome to our new Junior Infants.
Sports Day Friday 18th June: It was a great day, the weather was lovely and the children had a great time. A big thank you to the parents who helped out on the day and supplied all the refreshments.
Graduation Ceremony: Eighteen Sixth Class pupils graduated from Scoil Bhreac Chluain on Thursday June 25th. This was the first time in the history of the school where the pupils were presented with a souvenir as they bid farewell to primary school. The ceremony began with a short play, which was performed by 6th class called the Wizard of Annascaul. The principal then gave a short speech thanking the children for their contribution to school life over the last eight years. He urged all the pupils to believe in themselves and utilise the many talents granted to them as they journeyed through life. Each pupil was presented with a silver pen inscribed with the school’s name, a key ring with the school crest accompanied by their name on a gold plated disc.
Mac Na mBo Climb: As part of our Get Active Programme 5th and 6th class pupils, parents, teachers and community members climbed Maca na mBo on June 21st. Mid-summer’s day provided the climbers with glorious sunshine which helped to make the experience one to remember for all involved. The walk began at Cloghan and mountaineers continued to weave their way past Mary Maca na mBo’s ruins negotiating streams and cut-away bog until they reached the summit. From this vantage point the clear skies provided everyone with breath-taking views of Tralee Bay up to Co. Clare on the north side and Inch Beach and the Iveragh peninsula on the south side. The walk continued down past local historical sites such as Lough Scail, the Mass Rock and the Holy Well. The tired travellers at this stage continued their walk through Derrygorman and back to the school. This was an educational, invigorating and thoroughly enjoyable experience for everyone involved. A huge thank you to all parents who took part in the climb and in particular Tom Devane, William Howe and Jimmy Mc Carthy for providing us with the technical expertise which ensured the safety of everyone.
Football: Congratulations to our school's football team who won the Fr. Curtin Cup for the first time in 22 years. this was a tremendous team effort played in glorious sunshine in Annascaul football field. They beat a combination of Scoil Mhic a Dhomhnaigh Ventry and Glens schools which was a marvellous achievement by 2gls:6pts to 0gl:6pts. Comhghairdeas do gach éinne.

Cutting Edge Technology in place in Scoil Bhreac Chluain.Scoil Bhreac Chluain has purchased 25 lap tops which are used by the pupils of 4th, 5th and 6th classes. Each place sitting in the senior classroom is equipped with a power socket and an internet connection. Each child in the two senior classrooms is assigned a numbered laptop for the year. This new techological infrastructure has placed our senior pupils in a very privileged position. The technological advances have helped all pupils from 4th to 6th to take part in a touch typing programme to improve the speed and accuracy of their typing. It has also helped them to familiarise themselves with powerpoint presentations and present displays in Irish and English. These children are also familiarising themselves with safety using the internet and creating Irish and English books with the aid of Microsoft Publisher. Most recently the children have begun to use photo story where the children can make their own documentaries using images, voice recordings, script and music.
